National Certificate in Educational Achievement

                                      (N.C.E.A)

N.C.E.A

N.C.E.A is the main New Zealand qualification for secondary school students.

As at Monday, 13th May 2019 NZQA have made (and are continuing to make) changes to the way NCEA is delivered to students in New Zealand Secondary Schools and Tertiary Education Institutes. Information about these changes can be found in the

New Zealand Scholarship

New Zealand scholarship is a seperate award from N.C.E.A, and is assessed by way of external assessment only. The assessments are separate from the level 3 assessments. A New Zealand scholarship is awarded if a student achieves the scholarship standard in a university approved subject. Students can also gain awards in individual subjects.                    for more information.

N.C.E.A Fees and Financial Assistance

On Monday, 13th May 2019 NZQA announced that NCEA fees will no longer be charged.  See information below taken from NZQA website:

"13 May 2019.

The Minister of Education has announced that families of secondary students will no longer have to pay fees to enter NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship. This change will remove financial barriers and ensure all the credits received towards NCEA will be visible in a student’s Record of Achievement.

These changes also mean schools no longer need to collect fees from around 168,000 New Zealand domestic students, or students from the Cook Islands and Niue, who are entering for NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship.

Any fees already collected from these students for 2019 will be refunded by schools. NZQA will be in contact soon with those schools which have already remitted fees, and NZQA will be working to award credits and qualifications earned in previous years where fees were not paid.

Additionally, as fees no longer apply to enter NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship, schools will not need to process applications for financial assistance to pay them.

The Minister has also announced                                                    to NCEA, and that the Government will fund the continued roll out of the NCEA Online programme.
